The holidays are upon us and if you are anything like the Born to Unicorn family, we are already gearing up to decorate for Christmas. This year we have a new idea in mind. Something kind of magical, kind of whimsical,  and lots of fun- A Unicorn Christmas tree!
That’s right! We want to take the idea of a traditional Christmas tree and turn it into a fabulous unicorn themed tree. That's my tree as the image cover. My kids are OBSESSED and begged for days to put it up. Glitter. Everywhere.
If you are feeling inspired to set up your own unicorn tree for the family, then check out this list of items you need to DIY your very own unique unicorn Christmas tree! If turning the family tree into a unicorn seems a bit too much… what about a mini unicorn tree in a kids room or playroom? We have ideas for that too! This was our first year doing one, and I put ours up in our sun room so I wanted to keep it elegant looking. You could totally do a whimsical, elegant tree OR go over the top with colors and rainbow colors galore!

1. Pick the Best Tree!!

A Christmas tree is usually the center of our Christmas decorations. Nothing will make your unicorn tree pop more than a PINK one. Yep, they make pink christmas trees. This is a great option when you really want your unicorn tree to make a statement as soon as someone walks in the door (plus if you have a daughter- she's going to think it’s the best thing in the world). If you're going for the elegant more muted look... check out the flocked tree like the one below!  We chose a flocked tree and just decked it out with lots of pink, glitter, and unicorns.

Below are some other options for a tall and skinny pink tree (perfect for an entry way, playroom, or kids bedroom), as well as a mini pink tree for dressers or tabletops. The small pink tree below is under $25! You can always get a mini white tree, and decorate it like a unicorn if pink is not your thing.  small mini white christmas treepink tree

 2. Choose the Cutest Unicorn Ornaments

Even though we love the new-age thought of a unicorn tree, we also love the old-school style of these felt unicorn ornaments! This set of 4 unicorn ornaments come with 4 unique unicorn styles and a soft feel. Your kids can even play with them or hang them as decorations in their room once Christmas is over.  We’re obsessed with this rainbow ornament too!

We also love the option of painting or coloring your own unicorn ornaments. This 24 pack of unfinished wood ornaments are perfect not only for decorating your unicorn tree, but provide a craft and activity to do with the kids over the Christmas season. They will love seeing their artwork displayed on the tree!

3. Add Additional Complementing Ornaments
Every main character needs a supporting actress! Help your unicorn ornaments shine with these complementing globe ornaments. Seam Teams provides lots of different color options so you can choose a color that will pop against your  bright pink tree. You get 24 ornaments and they all have different patterns and textures that will provide a beautiful contrast across the whole tree.

4. Throw on Bright Lights
We know that white vs. color lights for your Christmas tree is always up for debate. That’s why for our unicorn tree- we love this multicolored by light option! This strand of multicolor lights has unique pinks and purples that are perfect for your unicorn theme, but also have a few white lights thrown in. It’s the best of both worlds and yet still totally different! These lights have different flash settings and perfect to reuse on back decks and other events.

If you want something with more flair, we love these unicorn string lights as well! Another choice that’s  perfect to add to your kids playroom or bedroom afterwards.

5. Few Other Special Accessories
A little shiny tinsel is always a good touch right? Grab some fluffy white tinsel garland to wrap around the tree and nestle up to the cute ornaments and lights you have.  White is perfect to add that dreamy snowy look to your unicorn tree. And this Unicorn Tree Skirt is so extra...who wouldn’t love it?
